How VisaFit Works (Phase 1)

VisaFit is built for one high-intent moment: you’re an international student and you need to make OPT career decisions without guessing. We don’t replace your school’s international office, and we don’t promise outcomes. We provide educational clarity and planning support.

VisaFit’s core idea: duties matter more than titles

Students often search “jobs allowed on OPT” and get lists of job titles. That’s the wrong mental model. Titles are inconsistent across employers. A “Coordinator” role can be high-skill analytics at one company and general admin at another. VisaFit focuses on:

  • • Whether your weekly tasks map to your field of study
  • • Whether your work produces clear, explainable outputs
  • • Whether the role is likely to drift into vague work
  • • Whether supervision and expectations are documented

Step 0: Choose your career domain

VisaFit is domain‑pure: we generate roles only from the domain you choose (Sports, STEM, STEAM, Business, Trades, or Interdisciplinary). Other background (like sports experience) can show up as transferable skills, but it won’t override your domain selection.

Step 1: Answer a short questionnaire

You tell VisaFit the basics that shape educational OPT role-alignment reasoning. We use these inputs to score roles conservatively and give you plain-language framing prompts.

Field of study
Used to evaluate how duties could be explained as related to your coursework (educational framing only).
Graduation timing
Used to tailor a simple preparation checklist and what to prioritize first.
Interests
Helps narrow within your domain (for example: analytics vs operations vs media within STEAM).
Experience tags
Transferable skills signals that strengthen safer framing (analysis, reporting, systems, structured programs).

Step 2: VisaFit suggests roles and flags risk patterns

VisaFit groups roles into practical buckets (OPT‑Safe, Caution, Risky) based on alignment signals. These are educational labels meant to help you prioritize. They are not legal determinations.

Examples of what VisaFit flags
  • • Vague assistant roles that become “help with everything”
  • • Roles where duties drift away from your field of study
  • • Work that is hard to document with clear outputs
  • • Titles that sound aligned, but the day‑to‑day work is mostly generic

Step 3: Get a report you can actually use

The VisaFit report is designed for action. It’s a shortlist of safer role directions plus framing prompts and next-step planning.

  • • Top role matches and why they’re safer
  • • “Caution” flags and what to tighten
  • • Risk patterns to avoid (title ≠ duties)
  • • Resume and recruiter framing prompts (educational)
  • • A simple timeline checklist to execute
